CRUISE DETAILS

After embarkation on the Vlychada Marina, which is located in the south part of Santorini, follows a safety rules exhibition from our experienced crew. Vlihada port and marina are full of sailing yachts and fishing boats. It is also a Beach.
This beach itself is quite long and covered with dark grey sand you can find all over the island.

Our first stop on the tour is Red beach. The Red Beach of Santorini is without a doubt one of the most beautiful and stunning beaches on the island, all of its unique colors! It is located only some steps away from the ancient site of Akrotiri.

The small beach area creates a considerably crowded atmosphere and there are many days when most visitors choose not to visit the beach and instead admire this unique landscape of red and black volcanic rocks from the boat. Snorkeling is highly recommended due to the interesting rock formations one can find at the bottom of the sea.

The next stop is the cove right next to the Red beach, on the southern side of Santorini, which is known as the White beach. Similar to the Red beach, with black pebbles on the shore, only that here the surrounding cliffs are white.

The crystalline waters of the White Beach make a sharp contrast to the nearby beach of Kokkini (Red) beach. This beach is accessible by sea only. It is less popular than the neighboring cove and less crowded. Ideal place for landscape photography.

We are about to explore The “Faros” or the lighthouse (as it is translated into English). It was manufactured in 1892 by the French Company of Lighthouses in a square shape. It first worked, in 1892 with petroleum and its luminosity was 23 n.m.
It is now flashing a white light every 10 seconds and luminosity of 24 n.m. Faros is the most southwesterly area of the island with a magical panoramic view. While you are there, try to spot the Indian head rock, one of the destinations we will explore on this tour, on the south shore.

Our next adventure awaits us at Aspronisi (meaning “white island”) or Strogili, a small uninhabited rocky island. The island is located west of Santorini, south of Thirassia, and west of the Kameni islands. Is a part of the Santorini caldera, which formed as a result of a volcanic eruption in 1450 BC.
Aspronisi is a dry island that is 650 meters long and 200 meters wide with an area of 0.14 km2. The island rises steeply from the sea, is relatively flat (about half of the island is truly flat), and has a height of 70 meters. Like Santorini, you can clearly see the layers that make up the island.

Santorini has a one-of-a-kind natural beauty and wild scenery created by volcanic eruptions. Large explosive eruptions have dominated Santorini’s volcanic activity over the last 3600 years. The most recent example of this type occurred around 1613 BC and is known as the Minoan eruption.

Numerous minor and medium-sized, mostly effusive eruptions have occurred since the last major explosion. Within the caldera, this activity created the dark-colored islands of Nea and Palea Kameni. Greek and Roman’s writers witnessed and reported on their first appearance. Nea Kameni’s most recent eruption occurred in 1950. Santorini is currently dormant, and volcanism manifests itself as fumarolic activity and hot springs around the islands.

Our last place to explore is Palia Kameni (old burnt), one of the two volcanic islands in the middle of the Santorini Caldera, known as Hot Springs.

The temperature difference between the sea and the Hot Springs is approximately 5 degrees Celsius. The water contains sulfur, which is beneficial to the skin.

This beach is located southwest of the island of Santorini, close to the lighthouse and off the main road to Akrotiri. This beach, which resembles Vlyhada, was once very popular among visitors looking for alternative destinations.
Because it is further out of the way, Black Rock is a little quieter than some of the other beaches. The beach is not very large and is made up of sand with (mostly) pebbles and larger stones. High white cliffs surround Black Rock Beach. There are a couple of cave-houses that are occasionally used to house fishing boats (during the winter) and “syrmata,” which are houses built into the rocks.

Our time to head back to our base is finally here. Gather your belongings, say your farewells and we will meet again soon!
